Lexington Ballet 2010-2011 School Year
Fall Semester August 9-December 4
Primary Division
Creative Movement
Creative Movement focuses on developing a love for movement and
music.
This class meets once a week and is designed for children ages 3-5
Pre-ballet
Students on Pre-ballet focus on coordination through rhythm and
music.
This class meets once a week and is designed for children ages 5-7
Elementary Division
Level 1
(Ages 7-8) At this level students will begin to learn the basics
in classical ballet starting with the body positions with great emphasis on
placement, proper alignment and posture.
The classes are structured to cover floor, barre and center
exercises.
Most of the barre work is done with two hands on the barre.
Level 2
(Ages 8-9) At this level students continue to develop and perfect
the basic exercises in the classical vocabulary, the students begin class at
the barre and begin working with one hand at the barre, the class is structured
to cover barre, balance exercises, center practice, basic jumps and diagonals
Level 3
(Ages 9-10) At this level students begin learning more complex
connecting steps that require coordination and concentration at the same time
they continue to develop flexibility; the class is structured to cover barre,
center practice, basic jumps, spotting the head, pirouettes, diagonals and
start to understand the structure of grand allegro.
Intermediate Division
Level 4
(Ages 10-11) At this level the classes are one hour and a half and
the students are challenged to concentrate while using proper alignment of the
back, arms, legs and head.
Students will begin more complex petit allegro combinations and multiple
turns, with more emphasis on grand allegro
Students MAY start pointe at this level upon instructor
recommendation.
Level 5
(Ages 11-13) Students will develop mental and physical
stamina. New goals will include
multiple pirouettes, speed during petite allegro, continue to focus and
attention to proper execution of ballet technique.
Pre-Professional Division
Level 6
(Ages 13-15) Students at this level must have a strong work ethic
as they begin a more rigorous and demanding class schedule. We will continue to work on
accents, speed, multiple turns, and extension. The students will begin to
develop their artistry to prepare them for the stage.
Level 7/8
(Ages 15 and up) this ballet class is appropriate for advanced
students aspiring towards a career in dance. We continue to work on classical technique, accents and
multiple turns and complex jumps as well as continuing to develop their
artistry for the stage.
Adult Ballet $15 per class or $120 for a 10 class card
